Multigenerational living, designed right.
Custom in-law suites and accessory living units for Connecticut families. Whether attached, detached, or basement-based — designed for privacy, independence, and aging-in-place.

Privacy. Independence. Family.
An in-law suite isn't just a guest room. It's a fully-functional living space — with its own bath, kitchenette or full kitchen, and ideally a separate entrance — designed so an aging parent or adult child has independence without leaving the family.
Lagace builds in-law suites that meet Connecticut's 2026 ADU rules and accommodate the realities of multi-generational living: zero-step entries, walk-in showers, wider doorways, and easy-to-clean finishes.
- Attached in-law wings with separate entrance
- Basement conversions with full kitchen and egress
- Detached cottages on the same property
- Aging-in-place features (zero-step, wide doorways, ADA grab bars)
- Code-compliant separate metering when needed
- Septic and water tie-ins handled

Common questions.
What's the difference between an in-law suite and an ADU?
An in-law suite is a residential design pattern. An ADU is a legal/zoning classification. Many in-law suites qualify as ADUs under CT 2026 law if they have a separate entrance, kitchen, bath, and sleeping area. We build them to ADU code by default so they can be legally rented or sold separately later.
How much does an in-law suite cost?
Basement-based suites run $80,000-$150,000. Attached additions run $150,000-$280,000. Detached cottages run $200,000-$400,000+ depending on utilities and finish.
Can I include aging-in-place features?
Yes. We routinely build zero-step entries, 36-inch doorways, walk-in showers with grab bars, lever-handle hardware, raised outlets, and lower light switches. These are standard upgrades, not luxury add-ons.
